Great work by our students across the the Friday classes, in our senior students we divided the catagory into beginner and more advanced students, so well done to Eve Donlon and Ciáran Fleming.

Combat Class
Dates have been set for the grading and club challenge. On the 10th of May starting at 18:00 we will have a class instructed by Master Harry Thompson, followed by a grading.
On the 2nd half of the course we will have an invitational fight off with Faolchú vs MVF Freestyle.
This will be a very educational and rewarding event, where all club members are welcome to attend.

Planned Charity Event
Last years charity event was a great success, raising over €1000 for MS suffers in Tuam.
We would like to keep our Kickathon as an annual event as we feel it's important to install a sense of community and civic duty in our young students.
From last years feedback, their was a great sense of pride amoungst those who took part, knowing that they'd "helped sick people".
Our event won't be on until September. What we are looking for now are nominations for which charity to fundraise for. If there is a charity that you are involved in or is close to your heart please let us know and we will consider making it our charity of choice.

Parents Class
In May we have plans to hold a parents class. This is an opportunity for parents who have children in class to find out about what goes on in class and be able to help out with questions at home. Or even to have a taster yourself! This will not be a very physical class but informative and friendly and hopefully fun too. Have a chat with your instuctors if you have any questions.

Ballina Little Dragons Competition
Last Sunday 25 members from Faolchú travelled to Ballina in Co. Mayo to take part in an invitational competition designed to expose students to the joys of competition in a safe and friendly way. As usual all students were confident and eager to take on the world! The Little Dragons was designed for children aged between 4 and 12, so there was a keen interest because events like this are rarely seen in Connaught.
Over 200 children took part from a number of clubs and from beginner to brown belt in Karate kata & kumite and in Kickboxing points & continuous, so we had to knuckle down!
But there was never any fear, our guys kept their cool and brought their skills.
There were some exceptional victories on the day, 5 of our students came in 1st place and really shone when the odds where against them. And equally impressive were those who brought their best and it just wasn't their day, I am always humbled to see a child maintain dignity and respect even when it's difficult!
Competition is a great opportunity to test our character and skills and hopefully make friends and have fun too.
Congratulations to all club members who took part, we are very proud of you. The club did exceptionally well taking home 21 medals between them. Setting a president as a club of champions.

Faolchú Competition
Our annual Faolchú inhouse competition is planned for the 30th of July. This is an event suitable for every one of our students. Details of catagories will be sent out closer to the time.
The purpose of our inhouse competition is to positively encourage all students and give them an opportunity to demonstate their skills and knowledge for family and friends in a safe environment. It also gives the additional advantage to club members that they can learn the rules of competition and get the experiance without having to travel. There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd and joint 3rd with a competitors medal for all.
As a bonus this year the JKS our governing organisation have asked to to select our champions in various events to go forward to compete at the Irish club championships (at no cost to selected members).
Further details will be posted on the notice board as they are finalised.
Tuesday Class!
Last Tuesday our student of the Month awards went to Luis Lavelle and Daragh Gilmore. Unfortunately we didn't get their photos at the time, so congratulations to both boys, keep up the good work.
