Student of the Month

It is that time of the month when we select a student who has stood out from the others in their effort, attendance and improvement within the class.
The Tuesday class proved difficult to decide upon this month as indeed it does every month. As usual we had planned to award two medals one for 4-5, and one for 6-7, but as you can see that proved difficult.

Congratulations to Connor Heneghan, Jack Haughey & Dara Heneghan.

Travelling and Training

Over the past two weeks we have made a couple of trips to some of our nearby JKS clubs to train with Sensei Scott Langley 5th dan.
Two weekends ago we took the drive up to Kiltimagh, where we were welcomed by Sensei Alan Biesty and his class for a day of grading and training. Alan hosted a special children's class, which was taken by Sensei Scott. I found this especially interesting. Watching the techniques that Sensei Scott and his team at the JKS have developed for teaching children karate has given me a lot to think about and work on for our own children's class development.
Myself, Marty and Jadzia all successfully grading on the day.
Well done guys.
Thank you Sensei Alan for your help and continued assistence.
And as always thanks to Marcela for always having cake and spoons!!!!

Last weekend we had the pleasure of visiting Sensei Pat Murtagh's club in Drumone, Co. Meath.
This was my 2nd time training with his club and once again I was taken with this wonderfully friendly club. Even though Pat and his club where hosting a large grading they made us feel like part of the group and went as far as helping out our own grading members. Well done to all who graded on the day and especially our own Eimear who successfully double graded.

Jadzia's Grading

Well done to Jadzia Murphy on passing her grading and achieving 9th kyu. Jadzia has been practising karate for 2 years now and did exceptionally well on her grading especially considering that she'd only been working on her new syllabus for less that 2 weeks and had to perform a few unexpected techniques.

Karate suits

Karate dogi's have arrived and are looking good. So next time that you're in class the childrens karate suits will be available for everyone who has ordered them.

Sensei Marie Competing

This is a photograph of when Sensei Marie Murphy with the Irish Team who competed in the World IMAF Championships in Belgium in 2009. Marie was 4th on this occasion in Kumite(combat) and team kata. Not bad considering 29 countries took part and sent their best.

Karate Suits

I will be putting in orders this week for the childrens karate suits. Many parents have put in orders and with any luck by the next class all the karate suits will be here and we will have an excited group of karate kids!
Anyone else who would like to put in an order please contact me asap to be included in this mailing.
There is no pressure on parents to buy suits at this stage and i will put in another order later in the year for anyone who would rather hold off for a while.
We are very happy and proud of how all our students are currently progressing, they are all keen and dedicated and our Tuam Karate Club really is something to be proud of.
Keep up the good work.

Grading Syllabus

I have upgraded the grading syllabus and brought it in line with our examiners requirements. Hopefully it is clear to understand.
