Tanden Dojo

On Friday myself and some of our Faolchú students took a spin over to Tanden Dojo in Longford. We where made very welcome by Alan Sensei and his student Jude and had a really enjoyable couple of classes.
It was also great to catch up with Pat Murtagh Sensei and some of his students from Meath as it's been a while since we all got together in the same dojo.
Well done to Jack, Ben, Finn, Aaron and Dean (not pictured) who all successfully graded on Friday under Alan Smith Sensei.
Many thanks to Tanden Dojo and Alan Smith.

Go Katie

I can't help it. . . . . . . . I am completely over come with Katie Taylor/ Olympic fever.
I am totally excited and brimming with pride watching our young country woman showing the world what a hardy Irish woman is made of.
I am not really into tv sports however I admire anyone who puts in the hard work and training and often will get carried along in the excitement of big events.

But getting back to Katie Taylor, wow!
It is so thrilling to see this young woman dominate her sport with such ease and grace.
In 1900 women where tolerated competing in Lawn Tennis and golf! Only 84 years ago, women where included in athletics and gymnastics. Which was to the distaste of many, even in the 80's(before pc came into play) it was okay for commentators to openly criticize women who where mothers and competing.

And today at the 2012 Olympics, for the first time all sports are open to both sexes and to top that an Irish woman looks ready to take the gold.
And what a woman, she's not running about talking about feminism, she's not out doing bikini shots. She's trains hard and fights smart, just gets on with business.

My son is loving watching the Olympics. He's sports mad.
But he's kind of disappointed that we aren't winning the most medals. I'm trying to point out that for for every Irish person there's 340 Chinese people.
Apparently our sense of self belief isn't something we're born with but comes from years of watching our sporting heroes from our little country go forward (with poor resources and funding) and stand tall against countries with specialist sports training facilities, government funding and the best of everything.
Real Irish Pride!!

And today as the Irish supporters lift the roof like no other country can, singing the Fields Of Athenry at 113.7 decibels (louder than any other supporters ever at London Olympics), all across Ireland we'll all stop, and watch and cheer.
We REALLY want you to win Katie
but if you don't . . . . . well it doesn't change a thing, you will always be our HERO.
